Our Approach to Support & Care
At ADN, we support people living with dementia to enjoy the quality of life each individual prefers. We recognize that Alzheimer’s, frontotemporal dementia, vascular dementia, and more than 120 other conditions cause permanent and progressive damage to brain cells and to the connections between them.
Quality of life means DIGNITY.
To achieve this, we distinguish between SUPPORT and CARE.
Our philosophy is:
A Non-Pharmaceutical Support Approach.
We train our supporters and carers to practice this philosophy across three models of care:
1. Curative Care
Treating what can be treated
- Focuses on medical treatment for specific illnesses or conditions
- Examples: urinary tract infections (UTIs), pain management, seasonal flu, other medical issues
- In dementia: we treat co-existing, reversible conditions to maintain quality of life
- ADN differentiates between delirium and dementia and works with medical professionals to eliminate or stop progression of treatable conditions
2. Palliative Care
Living well with dignity
- Includes curative care where appropriate.
- Centers on our DNA therapy.
D – Don’t disconnect me from life.
N – No medication that interferes with my alertness and function of the brain.
A – Awareness support for my senses, so I can experience life and the world I am living in.
